Reese Witherspoon has signed up to star in a remake of the classic 1939 romantic comedy 'Midnight'.
The original starred Claudette Colbert as an American stranded in Paris, who becomes involved with a poor taxi driver and a rich socialite trying to get rid of the gigolo wooing his wife.
Witherspoon will play the Colbert character, while the Oscar-winning 'Little Miss Sunshine' scribe Michael Arndt will write the screenplay.
''Midnight' has long been one of my favourite films, and it is easily one of the best comedies of the '30s' he told Variety. 'Being given the chance to update the film with Reese in the lead is simply a dream come true.'
