'Fugees' football film in the works

Universal are planning a project based on an inspiring soccer team of young refugees.

Jun 13 2007

Universal is planning a football film based on a team of refugee youth players who call themselves The Fugees.

'World Trade Center' scribe Andrea Berloff is in talks to pen the screenplay, which will be based on a New York Times article by Warren St John.

The story centres on Luma Mufleh, a Jordan-born woman who set up a football team in Clarkston, Georgia, where refugee families have settled from around the world.

The film will be an inspiring story of how the sport has given the children confidence and camaraderie under the coach's tutelage, and long-time Spielberg collaborators Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy will be onboard in a producing capacity.
