'Batman Begins' Poster Hits Net

Holy Hype! The first official 'Batman Begins' poster has debuted online, and it's a simple but oh so effective shadowed shot of Christian Bale, in full costume, as the caped crusader himself.

A minimalist image befitting the film's minimalist publicity campaign thus far, the troubled crimefighter's menacing silhouette is framed before a restless sky at dawn, with little more than the words 'Batman Begins' and 'June 17' (the film's American release date) below.

Following on from the intriguing but distinctly underwhelming teaser trailer that set the gothic Gotham scene earlier in the year but did little to actually whet the average bat-fan's appetite, the poster is far more effective, hinting at a seriously dark approach to the material from director Christopher Nolan.

The full trailer is also expected to hit screens any day now (possibly with prints of 'Ocean's Twelve' in the States next week) at which point fans should get a better look at the bat, the car, the toys, the cave and the film's impressive cast, which includes Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson, Rutger Hauer, Katie Holmes, Cillian Murphy, Tom Wilkinson and Ken Watanabe.

The publicity machine will then truly kick into action, with all manner of bat-related hype invading our lives in anticipation of the film's release next summer.
