We Woz Robbed!

Tom Cruiuse, Brad Pitt, Meg Ryan and Sharon Stone should all have won Oscars according to the British public.

Jan 24 2005

Alfred Hitchcock has topped a poll searching for the most deserving director never to have won an Academy Award.

The survey, which was carried out by Turner Classic Movies, saw the British public vote Samuel L Jackson the actor most worthy of an Oscar, while Demi Moore was chosen as the actress most deserving of one of the little gold statuettes.

Filling out the lists, stars such as Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Lauren Bacall, Sharon Stone, Tim Burton and Spike Lee were all suggested as candidates for long-overdue awards.

Hitchcock was nominated for the big one six times during his career, but amazingly always went home empty-handed, while Richard Burton, who came in at number three in the list of actors most deserving, was nominated a whopping seven times without ever coming away with a win.

Martin Scorsese meanwhile, who has been nominated five times without a win, could be the first of those chosen to turn his luck around this year with his latest picture, 'The Aviator'.

The director's epic adaptation of the life of Howard Hughes has already bagged the Golden Globe for 'Best Dramatic Motion Picture' while on Saturday the film won the prestigious Producer’s Guild of America award for best film.

The caterpillar-eyebrowed director will find out if he's in with a shout when the Academy Award nominations are announced tomorrow, while the Oscar ceremony itself takes place on February 27.
