Sci-Fi Hits Town Tomorrow

And the line-up includes screening of 'The Machinist', 'Primer', 'The Purifiers' and sci-fi spoof 'Saving Star Wars'

Feb  1 2005

The 4th London International Festival of Science Fiction and Fantastic Film kicks off in London tomorrow night, with all manner of sci-fi goodies being screened over the next four days.

First up are 'Able Edwards' ('Citizen Kane' in space apparently), 'The Purifiers' (Richard Jobson's Scotland-set martial arts movie) and cult classic in the making 'Primer' (which has already been described by Time Out as an 'audacious time-travel mindfucker').

From this impressive opening, the programme then proceeds with a 'Matrix' all-nighter, a tribute to the legendary Shaw Brothers and a special screening of Christian Bale's much-talked about 'The Machinist'.

Festival director Louis Savy says the programme includes 'movies to excite, movies to make you think and movies to make you laugh', and with screenings as diverse as animated epic 'Steamboy', sci-fi sequels 'Cube Zero' and 'Trekkies 2' and the world premiere of Vinnie Jones' time-travel thriller 'Slipstream' taking place, it sounds like the festival will certainly be full of surprises.

And in a year when a certain little sci-fi film entitled 'Revenge of the Sith' will be dominating the world's box office for weeks on end, the line-up also includes a screening of affectionate fan comedy 'Saving Star Wars', followed by a Q&A with Darth Vader himself, David Prowse.

And if geography is against you and you can't make it to London for all the spaced-out action, have no fear; Savy is taking the films on tour to Edinburgh, Liverpool, York and Exeter throughout February and March.
