Ermanno Olmi starts work on new drama

The Italian director is currently filming in Bologna and on the banks of the Po river.

May 10 2005

Italian director Ermanno Olmi ('The Legend of the Holy Drinker', 'The Profession of Arms') has started shooting a new film in Bologna.

The drama, entitled 'Cento Chiodi' (which literally translated means 'One Hundred Nails'), tells the story of a young university professor who becomes the subject of an unpleasant investigation.

In response, he leaves the city and heads for the country where he finds refuge in an old farmhouse on the banks of the River Po.

Initially alone, the young man soon starts to mingle and make friends with the locals, changing his life forever.

The film, which stars Raz Degan ('Titus', 'Alexander'), is currently shooting in Bologna, Mantua and on the Po river.

'Cento Chiodi' will be Olmi's first effort since 'Tickets', a portmanteau featuring segments by Abbas Kiarostami and Ken Loach, screened at Berlin earlier in the year (click here for Geoff Andrew's opinion at the time).
