Lars von Trier delays final part of trilogy

The maverick filmmaker will work on a very different project before completing his series of films on America.

Lars von Trier, whose 'Manderlay' is currently in competition at Cannes, has revealed that the third part of his incendiary 'USA trilogy' will no longer be his next project.

Instead, the Danish director plans to shoot a new Dogme film early next year.

Entitled 'Direktoren For Det Hele' (which literally translates as 'Managing Director of it All'), the film will follow the Dogme 95 rules, whereby shooting must be done on location, with a hand-held camera, using only natural light and sound.

However, while the name suggests it will be quite unlike the typical von Trier fare, producer Vibeke Windelov revealed that fans need not worry, saying: 'Don't let the title fool you – Lars would never make a film about trade and industry – he's only interested in the people who operate within it.'

And speaking to Screen Daily about why he was returning to his Dogme roots, von Trier explained: 'I always said to myself: "If you were somehow stuck in the filmmaking process in general it would be wise to take a little Dogme pill."'

The third part of the American trilogy will now roll before cameras sometime in 2007.
