David Lynch close to completing new film

The director of 'Blue Velvet' and 'Wild at Heart' has managed to make a movie while at the same time keeping it a secret.

David Lynch appears to have made a new film without anybody really noticing.

The 'Blue Velvet' director has spent the last two years working on 'INLAND EMPIRE' (capital letters and all) in Poland and Los Angeles, financing the film himself with wife Mary Sweeney producing.

The mysterious tale of a woman in trouble, 'INLAND EMPIRE' (which is the grim residential area on the edge of the desert near LA) stars Laura Dern, Justin Theroux and Harry Dean Stanton, as well as several local Polish actors.

Little else is known about the feature at this time, apart from the fact that it is being made on digital video.

Indeed, Lynch himself has no idea when the project will be finished, although distributors StudioCanal are thought to be pushing for a world premiere at Cannes next year.

'Making a film is a beautiful mystery,' he told Variety. 'You go deep into the wood and you don't want to come out of that wood, but the time is coming very soon when I will have to.'

So if you see the shock-haired director emerging from a forest near you with a video camera under his arm, don't be alarmed or surpised – just be thankful that one of Hollywood's most eccentric artists is back to confuse and dumbfound us all once again.
