'Jarhead' trailer online

Catch a first glimpse at Sam Mendes' new war film that stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Jamie Foxx.

Aug 12 2005

It's been a while since film fans have had a really great trailer to get their teeth into, but our first glimpse at forthcoming war film 'Jarhead' is just that.

Directed by Sam Mendes ('American Beauty', 'Road to Perdition'), the film is an adaptation of Anthony Swofford's autobiographical account of his time spent as a sniper during the Gulf War.

With excellent use of music and some eye-catching visuals, the trailer makes it clear that this is very much a 'war is hell' entry into the combat genre.

An early Oscar contender thanks to the pedigree of director and cast (which includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard, Chris Cooper and Jamie Foxx), the subject matter is also sure to stir up controversy when it hits US screens in November.

As for the UK, the film will be released over here on January 13.
