John Lennon documentary in production
'The US vs John Lennon' will chronicle the musician's controversial time in America.
Sep 1 2005
Plans are afoot to make a documentary about John Lennon's time in America during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
David Leaf and John Scheinfeld's 'The US vs John Lennon' will detail Lennon's transformation from mop-top pop star to anti-war activist and powerful political figure. It will also deal with the US government's efforts to silence him at the time.
The film, which has already received the blessing of Lennon's widow Yoko Ono, will be released in 2006, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Lennon being granted permanent residency in the States.
It will be Leaf's third musical documentary in a row, following last year's 'Beautiful Dreamer: Brian Wilson and The Story of Smile' (reviewed here) and recently wrapped 'Who is Harry Nilsson (And Why is Everybody Talkin' About Him)?'.
Speaking of the project, he and Scheinfield said: 'This is an important story that we've wanted to tell for a long time.'
