British Inpependent Film nominations announced

'Mrs Henderson Presents' and 'The Libertine' lead the way at the BIFAs

It's only October and yet the awards season is already upon us, with the 8th Annual British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) announcing their nominations this week.

Leading the way, with eight nods apiece, are 'The Libertine' and 'Mrs Henderson Presents'.

The former tells of legendary cad the second Earl of Rochester, while the latter revolves around Soho's Windmill Theatre, the first playhouse to put naked girls on the London stage.

Hot on their heels are Fernando Meirelles' 'The Constant Gardener' (with seven nominations) and Michael Winterbottom's 'A Cock and Bull Story' (with five), while Neil Marshall's well-received horror flick 'The Descent' surprised everyone by being nominated for three awards.

The ceremony will take place at the Hammersmith Palais on November 30, and the main nominees are:
