'The Constant Gardener' sparks box office revolution

A topsy-turvy weekend at the box office produces some surprising results.

A minor revolution took place at the London box office over the weekend, with three new entries seizing the top spots, an old release changing direction and moving up the chart, and last week's number one dropping a whopping seven places to number eight.

The deserving winner was 'The Constant Gardener', Fernando Meirelles' brilliant thriller which hit the top spot with an impressive £186,916 haul.

Curtis Hanson's entertaining chick flick 'In Her Shoes', no doubt boosted by the star power of Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette, wasn't far behind at number two, while Shane Black's directorial debut 'Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang' also had an auspicious opening weekend, going straight in at number three.

Below them former Time Out film of the week 'The Beat That My Heart Skipped' did an about turn, ascending from six to five after two weeks on release.

Elsewhere the marvellous 'Broken Flowers' fell from two to six, while 'Elizabethtown' tumbled from number one to eight, proving perhaps that the Orlando Bloom bubble has finally burst.

Next week, all bets are off as a certain bespectacled wizard makes his return in 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'.
