George A Romero reveals plans for a 'Land of the Dead' sequel.

Fans of horror, fans of zombies and fans of the master of the genre, George A Romero, prepare to rejoice. The big fellow has announced plan to make a fifth film in the franchise that kicked off with 'Night of the Living Dead' way back in 1968.

The seriously scary series looked like it was dead in the water when the most recent instalment, 'Land of the Dead', failed to make much of an impression on the American box office earlier in the year.

However, Romero recently let slip to Empire that the franchise may yet return to life.

'Now that 'Land of the Dead' did so well in European markets and Japan, and the DVD is flying off shelves, there's talk of a sequel' he explained.

And for the first time, a 'Dead' film will be a direct continuation of the story, following the characters from 'Land' as they head for Canada in an effort to escape the zombie plague.

If all goes according to plan, the as yet untitled film will go into production in August, although where that leaves Romero's two Stephen King adaptations (more on them here) remains to be seen.
