Razzie nominations announced
'Son of the Mask' leads the way at the awards that celebrate everything terrible in film.
Jan 31 2006
The 26th Annual Razzies have been announced, and 'Son of the Mask' leads the way with a whopping eight nominations.
The sequel that nobody wanted is up for worst actor, worst director and of course, worst picture, where it will go up against 'Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo', 'Dirty Love', 'The Dukes of Hazzard' and 'The House of Wax'.
The 'Razzies', or the Golden Raspberries to give them their full title, celebrate the worst achievements in film over the last 12 months, and organisers say that 2005 was such a vintage year that they found it difficult keeping their list to just five nominees in each of the ten categories.
So here, without further ado, are the big ones:
Worst Picture
'Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo'
'Dirty Love'
'The Dukes of Hazzard'
'House of Wax'
'Son of the Mask'
Worst Actor
Tom Cruise ('War of the Worlds')
Will Ferrell ('Bewitched' and 'Kicking & Screaming')
Jamie Kennedy ('Son of the Mask')
The Rock ('Doom')
Rob Schneider ('Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo')
Worst Actress
Jessica Alba ('Fantastic Four' and 'Into the Blue')
Hilary Duff ('Cheaper by the Dozen 2' and 'The Perfect Man')
Jennifer Lopez ('Monster-In-Law')
Jenny McCarthy ('Dirty Love')
Tara Reid ('Alone in the Dark')
Worst Director
John Asher ('Dirty Love')
Uwe Boll ('Alone in the Dark')
Jay Chandrasekhar ('The Dukes of Hazzard')
Nora Ephron ('Bewitched')
Lawrence Gutterman ('Son of the Mask')
I can't argue with any of the above nominees, although I'm disappointed at the omission of Tony Scott's headache-inducing 'Domino'. And where is 'Hide and Seek', a supposedly psychological thriller that may well be the most moronic film ever made?
The awards will be handed out on Saturday, March 4, 24 hours before the Oscar ceremony. To check out the full list of nominees on the official site, click here.

- Tom Cruise did not deserve a nomination. War of the Worlds was a good movie. It was much better than the original version. Posted on Feb 04 2006 19:53

- How did King Kong not get any nominations? Most boringest special effects? Best computer game advert masquerading as film award? Worst in-joke, namely casting Jack Black in the film? Posted on Jan 31 2006 13:03
