After months of speculation, Sony Pictures today announced that Eva Green will play Vesper Lynd in the new Bond film, 'Casino Royale'.
The French actress, who starred in 'The Dreamers' and 'Kingdom of Heaven', beat off competition from the likes of Thandie Newton, Rose Byrne and Naomi Watts to land the coveted role.
In a joint press release, producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said: 'After an extensive search we have found the perfect actress. Eva is one of France’s most accomplished young actresses, now receiving international acclaim.
'She brings to the complex role of Vesper an exciting combination of enigmatic and seductive beauty.'
Sony also announced that Jeffrey Wright ('Basquait', 'Broken Flowers') will play CIA agent and Bond buddy Felix Leiter in the film.
'Casino Royale' will be released on November 17.
