A real hotch-potch, this: an American spaghetti Western, shot in Spain, set in Mexico, directed by British expatriate Guillermin, produced by the Hungarian Andre De Toth (who would probably have made a better job of directing it), and written by Steven Carabatsos and Larry (It's Alive, Demon) Cohen. Plus, its story features a black chaingang fugitive, a Yankee conman and an Apache, hunting down buried gold in a desert fortress. Unfortunately, too many cooks spoil the unappetising broth; the film is emptily flashy, fashionably violent, and totally lacking in subtlety or real tension.Author: GA
