Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

Kuei Chih-Hung's magnificently atmospheric direction (making consummate use of the Shaw sets), and supremely dignified playing by Yueh Hua and Liu Hui-Ling, go for nothing in this co-production. Some idiot has seen fit to burden the film with intensely degrading, not to say racist dubbing into joke Chinese full of 'vellys' and 'walkee plankees' (the story starts on board ship). There is also a liberal sprinkling of hip Americanisms of the 'Man, I'm really into kung-fu' variety. The appalling Hofbauer, veteran of innumberable leaden sex farces, presumably contributed the derisory sex scenes.
