From Time Out Film Guide

Hanks' aptitude for romantic comedy can do nothing for this corny World War II love story, which has a script so sugary it goes for your fillings. A heavily American-accented RAF officer, he meets a beautiful young Jewish girl (Marsillach) in Jerusalem. While she is as fresh and pure as her little white underslips, with smouldering eyes and a 180 degree wiggle that he finds irresistible, she is also a Sephardim, a branch of Jewry which permits marriage only within the faith. True love is in for a rocky ride. She fights her feelings for him, saying no a lot when she means yes. 'I'll wait a hundred years for you' she wails as her dashing flight lieutenant departs to do his bit for the desert campaign. Strictly for addicts of Mills & Boon.
