From Time Out Film Guide

This Disney version of Jack London's tale is run-of-the-mill stuff, offering spectacular icy locations set to a soapy orchestral score. Young Jack Conroy (Hawke) arrives in Alaska during the turn-of-the-century gold rush, determined to find his recently deceased father's claim. He enlists the aid of prospectors Alex (Brandauer) and Skunker (Cassel), and along the way develops a bond with White Fang, half-wolf and half-dog. The film charts their relationship, with White Fang at one point languishing in the hands of money-grubbing villain Beauty Smith (Remar) before Jack can stage a dramatic rescue. Despite moments of bravura and shameless tugs at the heart-strings, the film simply meanders towards a resolution. What's Brandauer doing here?
