Whoops Apocalypse (1986)
Director: Tom Bussmann
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Charting the course of international misunderstanding, writers Andrew Marshall and David Renwick - of the original TV series - return with this feature length comedy lampooning events of the 'near future'. The film centres on a South American invasion by the 'Maguadorans' of British 'Santa Maya', and a British PM determined to give the public what it demands - a nuclear strike in retaliation. Despite the potential, the film sticks meekly to a conventional framework, with gags that never manage to sink their teeth into the tenuous absurdity of international affairs as Dr Strangelove did. The mechanical antics, though at times amusing, amount to a timid distraction - kind of like riding the underground in the rush hour.Author: SGo
