On Moonlight Bay (1951)
Director: Roy Del Ruth
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A pleasantly nostalgic period musical, set in small town Indiana on the eve of America's involvement in World War I, based on Booth Tarkington's marvellous Penrod stories but largely ditching his monstrously funny small boy to provide a vehicle for big sister Doris Day and her budding romance with MacRae. Very much in the manner of Meet Me in St Louis, though nowhere near as good. The charming golden oldie score, featuring an array of hummable standards to go with the title song, is a definite plus.Author: TM
