5th Ave Girl (1939)
Director: Gregory La Cava
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
LaCava seems to have lost his touch, usually good for some sharpish social satire, in this comedy about a jobless and homeless girl taken into his stately mansion by a despondent millionaire, mainly with a view to shaking up his money-grubbing family by having her come on as a golddigger. The family duly fulminate while the millionaire happily plays with his pet pigeons instead of attending to business, and true love predictably looms to provide a happy resolution for his protégée. Even Rogers seems curiously listless.Author: TM
