The Fighting 69th (1940)
Director: William Keighley
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Sentimental propagandist claptrap recounting the heroic adventures of New York's famous Irish regiment during World War I. With distinct echoes of Angels With Dirty Faces - Cagney's the brash punk knocking the company's traditions until he discovers patriotism, O'Brien's the pious priest giving him guidance - the film is one of its star's most sugary, and therefore most disappointing efforts. Still, he does make the film come alive during a couple of hysterical screaming scenes.Author: GA
