A real Chevalier show as he demonstrates his saucy Gallic charm in two roles: as a wealthy Baron in financial straits, and as a Folies comedian the Baron employs to impersonate him to help him out of an awkward scrape. The comedy that arises from mistaken identities and complications with wife and girlfriend is brisk enough, though the musical numbers - even the one starring Chevalier's trademark straw hat - hardly match the Warners Busby Berkeley style that Fox's Zanuck was so keen to emulate.
