Forgotten Silver (1995)
Director: Peter Jackson, Costa Botes
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A lovingly produced tribute to obscure Kiwi film-maker Colin Mackenzie (1888-1937). Highlights include snippets from the feature length 1908 Warrior Season, with its pioneering sound recording, and rare footage of the Spanish Civil War in which Mackenzie met his end. The centrepiece is the restored version of the 'lost' Salome and the discovery of its dilapidated outdoor set, still standing decades on. Such authorities as Leonard Maltin and Sam Neill attest to Mackenzie's importance, though it's a pity that, for copyright reasons, the directors were obliged to omit all mention of his 1931 Himalayan project and of the controversial Yeti footage he secured.Author: BBa
