From Time Out Film Guide

No prizes for sophistication, but a much less botched job than Enter the Dragon. The first half, at least, is an adequate showcase for the not inconsiderable talents of Jackie Chan (trained in a Cantonese Opera school, he is less a martial artist than a highly skilled and inventive acrobat, with a sharp sense of physical comedy). The thinly motivated plot (involving mafiosi, kidnapping, and a brawl tournament in '30s Texas) is as implausible, sexist and naive as an average Hong Kong movie, but Chan gets enough of his own way to emerge radiating charm and to perform a few genuinely amazing stunts.

Posted on Jul 14 2007 22:51 This is a pretty good film in many ways. yesthe plot is very bad and the acting is not so great but for it's time the martial atrs part is far ahead of it's time.
One thing to remember is that Jackie came over here to do this movie because of his fame status in china but was forced to work with American actors. He was not allowed to hit anyone and was very limited to what her could do with these actors. No one was used to this type of film work and he was very upset with the out come. Jackie left the states (did a little spot in Cannon Ball Run first) and did not want to return ever to film here.
So add all that in and the film was very good. I just finished watching yet again.
