The Big Easy (1986)
Director: Jim McBride
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Lieutenant Remy McSwain of Homicide (Quaid) comes from a long line of venal cops, and although he does little more than run red lights, eat on the cuff in restaurants, and subscribe to the mildly extortionate Widows and Orphans Fund, he is not about to blow the whistle on his 'family's' fancier deals. Crusading Assistant DA Anne Osborne (Barkin) soon locks horns with him in and out of bed, but it takes a multiple murder and heroin scam to make him face up to his own corruption. You might take issue with the ratio of romance to detection, and to the toy alligator he cuddles in bed, but there is a gusto to the movie and a rush of incidental delights. Highly enjoyable.Author: BC
