So incoherent, sloppy and determinedly sleazy that it looks like self-parody, Ferrara's psycho-drama tells of a movie star (Modine) heavily into drugs and booze. Ignoring girlfriend Dalle's objections to his lifestyle, he ODs and blacks out; 18 months later, cleaned up and living quietly with Schiffer, he's nevertheless haunted by fantasies that he may have murdered Dalle. Neither the pretentious dialogue nor the sudden shifts in character (particularly that of Hopper's crazed director) makes sense; and the visuals are often pitifully voyeuristic in their emphasis on female flesh and all-round degeneracy.Author: GA
