From Time Out Film Guide

This action-thriller is a tense, effective bomb-fest; technically high-powered and unsophisticated enough in narrative and cultural terms to raise more than the odd laugh. Boston, it seems, has a bomb problem, with a disposal squad larger than the London Met. Dove (Bridges) is its maverick expert, of the breed who are mad, brave and cool, who crack jokes as the seconds tick away and vomit later in alleys, unseen. He's on the point of jacking it in for marriage and surrogate fatherhood when a spate of blasts are caused by ex-IRA loon Gaerity (Jones). The explosions dog Dove's path and he scents a 'this-time-it's-personal' scenario. Bridges walks through the bravura sequences and his père (Lloyd), as Dove's 'dad', does the funniest pixie American-Irishman. Jones, as ever, is menace incarnate.
