Born in East L.A. (1987)
Director: Cheech Marin
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Minus his old smoking partner Tommy Chong, writer/director/star Cheech Marin obviously put a lot into this story of a third generation Hispanic American who's unwittingly dumped back in Tijuana by US immigration authorities, doesn't speak a word of Spanish, and spends the rest of the movie trying to get back Stateside. The result is a well-meaning bore, which isn't sure whether to play it for laughs or to make a serious point, and ends up missing out on both fronts. Based on a routine Marin built around Bruce Springsteen's 'Born in the USA'.Author: TJ
