Boys on the Side (1995)
Director: Herbert Ross
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Goldberg's in her element here as Jane, a lesbian singer with attitude to spare who shares a cross-country drive first with Robin (Parker) and then with wild-child Holly (Barrymore). On the road, this female buddy-movie plays like a camper Thelma & Louise (rescued from her abusive boyfriend, Holly finds herself on the run when his corpse turns up on the front pages); it changes gears abruptly at the halfway mark, when Robin goes down with an AIDS-related illness. This tender, ticklish chicks' flick pushes a good many emotional buttons, but resists at least some of the easier options.Author: TCh
