Caravan to Vaccarès (1974)
Director: Geoffrey Reeve
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
The voices form the most attractive part of this film, which suggests that Alistair MacLean's story would have been better as a radio serial. The plot revolves around a Hungarian professor (Bryant) fleeing ze East vor America vher he can develop hiz infention vor everyvon. With irritatingly smart-ass observations like 'Did you ever see a gypsy wearing Gucci shoes?', it all cries out for a sense of irony that only Lonsdale's performance starts to exploit. Rampling and Birney prove totally incapable of forming a convincing relationship. He makes little of his boorish American hero on the loose and often out of his depth in Europe, while she, looking sadly lost, instead of putting him in his place, climbs into his bed, an event that must go down as one of the most implausible screen moments of the year.Author: CPe
