As befits an espionage story, Clement and La Frenais smuggle in bits of plot from every spy yarn they ever saw, including The 39 Steps, hence the otherwise pointless detour to the Scottish highlands. 'Nothing is what it seems' is the watchword in SpyWorld, but here the reverse is true. Recounting the plot (switched suitcase, a waiter who's an agent or vice versa, decoy marriage) would be to imply that anyone might care.
