A turgid tabloid heart-warmer from the director of Caddie, in which a hard-drinking hack rediscovers his social concern when he follows a tug-of-love saga through to its happy end. Soft centred for all its crusading zeal against bureaucracy and the baby export trade, it fudges even its rare portrait of the exiled Greek community with its constant recourse to tear-jerk melodramatics.
