This picture of working-class life as seen through the eyes of a depressed child (Kipp) is depressing indeed. Senile Granny spends much of her time on the toilet; Dad is a child-batterer; the lad's contemporaries are bullies; and the only bit of radiance that comes his way is spying on a naked girl through the bathroom keyhole.
