Class of '44 (1973)
Director: Paul Bogart
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Little Benjy (remember him?) joins the Marines 'cos of their tradition, while Hermie and Oscy go to college in this follow-up to Robert Mulligan's Summer of '42. Looking back to a fat, happy America, from a European point of view very much secure at the end of the rainbow during World War II, it has Oscy thrown out of college for pimping off a 32-year-old whore he installs in his room, while Hermie has girl trouble, feels guilty about not fighting, and is faced with the death of a father he never really knew. A serious analysis of the period might have been interesting, but Class of '44 just opts for clichés and nostalgia in equal doses.Author:
