Leisen's last theatrical feature - a musical remake of Tom, Dick and Harry, with Powell agonising prettily over which of three beaux (mechanic Robertson, wealthy Andes, real estate salesman Noonan) to wed - is admittedly far from his best, but not without interest. True, the cast don't have the necessary talent or fizz to do justice to either Gower Champion's choreography or the often splendidly gaudy art direction (shot in Technicolor, of course). But Leisen's handling of his hand-me-down material is civilised and vibrant, and while it's nowhere near as memorable as his Lady in the Dark, the film provides further evidence that he was one of Hollywood's most underrated directors.
