Phase IV (1973)
Director: Saul Bass
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
The ants is coming! Anyone who has ever watched an army of ants streaming back and forth along their 'motorways', defying the elements to accomplish their world-conquering task, knows this story well. Too well. Humankind's fate is left in the hands of several unusually inept and colourless scientists, the ants get the works from the special effects department, and original ideas (so often a casualty in sci-fi cinema) take a back seat. Only the opening titles really grab you, but then they should: Bass is the man who gave you the cat crawl for Walk on the Wild Side. As a director he's still got a lot of bugs to iron out.Author: MA
