La Piscine (1968)
Director: Jacques Deray
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
At the time this was pegged as a reworking of the edgy Delon-Ronet pairing from Plein Soleil. In retrospect a more apposite reference is perhaps Chabrol - the meals as splendid, the characters as impeccably bourgeois, a lethal outcome just as much a foregone conclusion. A couple's Saint-Tropez idyll is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of Harry (his ex-pal, her ex-lover) and Harry's nubile daughter. Beneath the friendly banter, resentments simmer, risks are taken and horseplay turns, on the spur of the moment, into murder. Crisp, elegant film-making.Author: BBa
