The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom (1993)
Director: Michael Ritchie
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
This sharply satirical slice of true-life Americana is a gift for Smile director Ritchie, whose films and themes it uncannily parallels. Hunter is by turns charming, chilling and oddly sympathetic as the ambitious Baptist mother ruthlessly promoting her daughter's ill-fated campaign to become a high-school cheerleader. Flatly lit TV interview footage after the incident is intercut with dramatisations of the lead-up to Hunter's arrest and trial for solicitation to murder her daughter's rival. Ritchie captures the texture of small-town Texan life and the mad scramble for TV rights to the story. (Made for cable.Author: NF
