From Time Out Film Guide

The Hitcher with a twist. A dumb psychological suspense picture in which ex-mercenary Wilder, back home in middle America, picks up a housewife stranded by her broken-down car. His passenger (Zuniga, best known for Rob Reiner's The Sure Thing) is not what she seems; in fact, she's an escapee from a mental institution, who befriends her victims, kills them, and then assumes their identities.
