The Pride of St Louis (1952)
Director: Harmon Jones
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Full enjoyment of this sports biopic depends on actually having heard of baseball giant Dizzy Dean, the hillbilly pitcher who won stardom with the St Louis Cardinals before injury almost ended his involvement with the sport. Dailey, usually seen in Hollywood musicals, makes him a cheerily sympathetic type, but it's one for the aficionados of the game and Citizen Kane obsessives looking for another movie where screenwriter Herman J Mankiewicz gives a real-life figure fictional treatment.Author: TJ
