The Prisoner of Zenda (1952)
Director: Richard Thorpe
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Lush but rather leaden remake of Anthony Hope's Ruritanian romance, establishing some sort of continuity by casting Lewis Stone, star of the 1922 version, in a supporting role as the Cardinal. Entertaining enough, though Granger is merely competent by comparison with Colman in the 1937 version, and Thorpe hasn't a tenth of Cromwell's style. Mason, though basically miscast, runs away with the acting honours as a Teutonically villainous Rupert of Hentzau, and Joseph Ruttenberg contributes some attractive Technicolor camerawork.Author:
