Hard to Kill (1990)
Director: Bruce Malmuth
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A routine cop thriller with plenty of bodies but no brains. Waking from a lengthy coma, LA cop Mason Storm (Seagal) swears revenge on the corrupt senator, crooked cops and vicious hoodlums who killed his wife and son and put him to sleep for seven years. With a little TLC from nurse Andy Stewart (LeBrock) and some help from a retired Internal Affairs officer, Storm regains gale force and blows away everyone in sight. he also recovers an incriminating videotape which will put the senator, now aspiring Vice President, behind bars for a long time. While Seagal is spraying bullets, breaking bones and throwing interchangeable bad guys through windows, this has a certain mindless appeal. But Malmuth's flaccid direction lacks the vicious muscularity and authentic edge of Seagal's previous feature, Nico; while the poorly integrated romantic sub-plot - not to mention the drippy, Chuck Norris-style flashback scenes involving the dead wife and son - lead to some awkward, choppy scene transitions. Why do these tough guys always insist on showing their sensitive side too?Author: NF
