From Time Out Film Guide

Promising to forgo his alcoholic, gambling ways, Sherghan, a nomadic tribesman of the Mongolian steppes, returns after six years in jail to his somewhat more airy yurt dwelling and his now divorced wife. He has an orphaned ten-year-old boy in tow, who, like Oskar in The Tin Drum, has elected to remain mute. Narrated in diary form by the boy, this good-looking but unremarkable domestic romantic drama outlines the boy's slow acclimatisation and unravels the emotional conflicts between the man, his wife and his younger brother.
