Heroes (1977)
Director: Jeremy Paul Kagan
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Henry 'The Fonz' Winkler's first starring feature purports to deal with the 'forgotten' subject of Vietnam veterans. But well-meaning references to a lost generation are quickly dropped in favour of routine odyssey as Winkler travels from NY to Eureka, California (yes, afraid so), teams up with Sally Field (casualty of a non-military engagement), and comes on like the only sane man in a crazy world (of course he's certified and on the run). 'The only one who is chasing you is you', she tells him, and he finally exorcises his ghosts of Vietnam with his gal by his side. One brief interlude of interest features Harrison Ford as a speedy but kinda slow vet who'd make Clint Walker look smart.Author: CPe

Interesting, but flawed look at the struggles of Vietnam vets trying to reintegrate into "normal", everyday life after returning from war.
Both Sally Field and Henry Winkler are excellent in their handling of a somewhat uneven script that veers from truly memorable, heart-felt moments, to bits of hackneyed, "hollywood" schmaltz.
But if for no other reason, give this one a chance (Although it is tough to find, since it was released many years ago on VHS, and has never been commercially released on DVD; it ocassionally does turn up on cable.) due to a (once-again) relevant storyline of veterans returning to civilian life, and the struggles that many of us will never know, thanks to the efforts of these true "Heroes".
Aside from the sensitive, beautiful performances of both Field and Winkler, watch for the supporting role of Ken Boyd turned in by (a pre-Star Wars) Harrison Ford.
(Heroes, though filmed before Star Wars' 1977 release, actually debuted a few months later the same year).
His performance, though limited, more than holds its own with those of the two leads. - Report as inappropriate
