Highway Society (1998)
Director: Mika Kaurismäki
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Rather more assured than Kaurismäki's LA Without a Map, this finds the director on familiar ground. It's a quirky, moody and likeable serio-comic road thriller, in which a mechanic, forced by former partners in crime to smuggle 'medical supplies' back from Finland to Germany, is lumbered with, and attracted to, the spoilt, eccentric daughter of a domineering rich woman determined to marry her off to a feckless aristo. It's an engaging tale of deceit and betrayal, executed with wry good humour and attractive camerawork.Author: GA
