Hocus Pocus (1993)
Director: Kenny Ortega
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
This comedy ghoulfest - about three hanged 17th century Salem witches revivified at Halloween 1993 - toes a wobbly line between genuinely scaring the tinies and diverting the seen-it-all teens. New-kid-in-town Katz believes witches and stuff to be all hocus pocus until heart-throb Shepherd takes him to her family's disused museum - the old witches' house - where he foolishly lights a black-flamed candle and brings back the blood-seeking daughters of darkness. The ugly trio - Midler, Najimy and Parker - perform a show-stopping version of 'I Put a Spell on You' at a Halloween party, but otherwise it's slim pickings.Author: WH
