Humoresque (1946)
Director: Jean Negulesco
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Full-tilt Warner Brothers melodrama: slum kid Garfield rises to concert pitch as a classical violinist (dubbed by Isaac Stern) under the far from disinterested patronage of wealthy/lonely/bottle-happy/yearning socialite Crawford, and amid ludicrously intense shoulder-chip, tear-jerk sparrings, has to choose between his bow and her heartstrings. Levant plays resident cynic/voice of conscience from the piano stool; Clifford Odets, no less, contributes to the adaptation of Fannie Hurst's madcap tushery.Author: PT
