A Map of the World (1999)
Director: Scott Elliott
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Weaver leads a strong cast as the school nurse who's accused of abusing a pupil, shortly after a friend's child drowns in her care ... but, alas! It's a brave, odd performance, mannered and cold, left high and dry by first time director Elliott's habit of putting the camera in the wrong place at the wrong time. Bizarrely, Jane Hamilton's novel views prison as a locus for personal growth. Indeed, it's a toss up which is more offensive, the film's muddled psychotherapy-think, or its 'TV movie of the week' designs on your handkerchief.Author: TCh
